Did you know that 40 and 60 watt incandescent bulbs are supposed to be phased out this year in the U.S.? (The 75w and 100w have already been phased out, if you haven’t noticed.) The 40s and 60s you’ll notice because they’re the most popular.
I’ve got a little cache of them; it’s kind of a pay me now or pay me later scenario for me. They’re cheaper up front, but use more electricity in the long run. The CFLs and the LEDs are cheaper on the electric bill, but still very expensive off the shelf, at least for my taste (as much as 10 time more expensive in some cases). (Plus, the dirty little secret about CFLs is that they contain mercury [nobody tells you that, do they?] - not necessarily hazardous a bulb at a time, but imagine the volume in broken and burned out CFLs that find their way into landfills.)
Anyway, you can read more here and here. if you’re interested. And if you want some of the good old “regular” bulbs for yourself, better get to the store before I do.
