WoW Raid Leader = Hiring Potential?

There are some people on reddit who are trying to argue that it’s a good idea and relevant.

I would say that I think it’s a bad idea. I like the idea of simply writing that you have team leadership skills. If they ask for an example during the interview, you can better explain how WoW applies, what you had to do as leader, and things you learned from it.

“No, I don’t have any real world management experience, but I have beaten all 5 campaigns in Left 4 Dead 2 in Hardcore!”

Just stop it.

In fact, real life example: Someone once listed “Second Life” as a skill on their resume. Maybe it would make sense if we were a software shop (or a marketing firm), but it was irrelevant and laughable for a part-time board operator job.

All I know is that there are some folks on WoW who are very serious.  There are guilds that keep regular hours, require regular maintenance, require recruiting and management skills, and have politics that would rival some offices I’ve worked in.  It’s not necessarily something I would do for fun, but I could truly see how the skills are transferrable.  (Here’s a couple of guild websites, for your information. Here’s oneHere’s another, which is probably more impressive than the first.  They do take things seriously.)
