In answer to Luke Wilson and his on-going, mis-leading campaign, trying to convince you that AT&T is better than Verizon, I give you: The Droid.
It’s Motorola’s answer to the iPhone.  It has the added benefits of: 1) actually being able to make phone calls all over, without dropping them, 2) being open source, and 3) being on Verizon.
With all due respect to Apple (which should have gone with Verizon in the first place), the Droid is awesome.  I have one, and it continues to amaze me with the technology that comes with it, and that is available for free in the marketplace.  It replaces a GPS for the car, a personal planner like a Palm, and a phone.  (Okay, downside is that it’s a bit bigger than I like, and I ordinarily don’t need to carry a full-blown computer in my pocket; but this thing works, and I’ve grown used to it.  Also, documentation is not as good as you’d like, but you can find all answers on-line, so you’re not really left hanging.)
If you’re in the market for a smart phone, and want the latest technology, this is the way to go, on the Verizon network.

It’s still a bit expensive but I have been wondering about this. Good to know.

There are two droids, actually…….HTC puts one out that is touch-screen only, and Motorola makes the one that also has a slide-out keyboard…the HTC was $99, and the ‘rola was $199…..but because I had waited so long to upgrade my old phone (more than 2.5 years — I really liked my old phone!), Verizon offered me $100 off the price of the ‘rola.
The only other “hidden” cost is this — you need to subscribe to a data plan to use the browser, and all the web stuff…..it’s an extra $30/month…..but because I never use my minutes, I was able to cut the minutes on my plan, and then add the data plan, so it was, essentially, a wash…..plus, I had 30 days to see if I really liked the phone.
I did.
