Fox says, 'No we can't' to Obama
the worst part is the show they are airing over the Obama press conference stars the guy who played possibly the worst movie villain of all time: Tim Roth as Archibald Cunningham
Fox Broadcasting is taking a pass on President Obama’s Wednesday news conference, opting instead to run a new episode of its crime drama “Lie to Me,” starring Tim Roth.I’m not sure if this is a big deal. Fox is a business and when we start demanding a special and specific relationship between certain businesses and the government then we are supporting elements of fascism. Then again, Fox is in the business of providing entertainment, news and video content in general, so there may be an argument to airing the press conference. But that is one reserved for the Fox boardroom.
I think it’s smart for Fox to not air the press conference. ALL the other networks and the cable news outlets will be showing the press conference. Fox wants to show Lie to Me instead, and those who wish to watch the press conference can change the channel. THAT’s capitalism! Now Fox can sell the ad time and show the newest episode of their show. I bet their ratings will be higher than usual.
Much ado about nothing..
(Besides, I’ll be watching the highlights over at TPM.)
Plus, I really enjoy do the show Lie To Me….Tim Roth does a great job. (Of course, opinions vary, but I like it.) No offense to the president, but I’d rather see the show……and that has been the case through many presidents…..the next time a president says something important at a press conference that isn’t prompted by some kind of national emergency (9/11, Katrina, the Gulf War etc.) will be the first time.
